UPDATE: Fire Strikes Condo Complex

UPDATE:

Two families are homeless on the day before Thanksgiving after a fire damaged their condominiums.

The fire broke out around 12:20 p.m. at the Fairfield Place Condominium Homes. That's along the 6200 block of Beechfield in south Lansing.

A neighbor noticed the smoke and called the fire department.

Firefighters say the flames started in a lower level condo, went up a wall, and into the attic.

Firefighters were on the scene for a little more than an hour putting out the flames.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Fire has struck a condominium complex in south Lansing.

Crews are on the scene of the building near the intersection of Beechfield and Miller.

Smoke is rising from the building. Unconfirmed scanner traffic suggests the fire has spread to the roof.

There's no word on how substantial the damage is or whether people will be forced from their homes.

6 News has a crew at the scene and we'll have more on air and online as we get more information.
