The Portland Raiders topped Grand Rapids West Catholic, 12-9, at the Division 5 State Football Championship in Detroit.
Quarterback Tanner Allison scored both Portland touchdowns in the first half to give the Raiders a 12-0 lead.
West Catholic responded with a touchdown late in the first half, then closed the deficit to just 3 after sacking Allison in his own endzone for a 2-point safety in the 4th quarter. West Catholic drove to the Portland 14-yard-line with less than a minute remaining in the game, but the Portland defense made a game-winning tackle on 4th down to seal the victory.
It's the first state title in Portland school history. We'll have a full postgame report from Ford Field, tonight during 6 Sports at 11 pm.
