Mason Based Company Welcomes New Expansion

Dart Container Corporation which is based in Mason,  announced a major plan Wednesday that is estimated to bring at least 325 new jobs to the Mid-Michigan Area.

The approval of a performance based grant by the Michigan Strategic Fund, will allow the company to expand in terms of employees and facilities.

It all started with a 6 ounce cup, but over the last five decades, Dart Container Corporation has grown into a worldwide operation.

An operation that can now move even farther forward with the approval of a three million dollar grant.

"What we are looking at is the construction of a new corporate office building and the construction of a new warehouse facility," said Dart Facilities Engineering Manager John Alfano.

It will also mean the addition of 325 new employees; including the engineers who know how to build the machines that make Dart's products, as well as administrative positions part of the research and development team. Some will also be filled by the relocation of Solo Cup Company staff from the Chicago area to Mason.

Alfano says the need for expansion is easy, they are simply running out of space, mainly do to Dart's purchase of the Illinois based Solo Cup Company in May.

The acquisition added more products and doubled the employees in the Dart family.

"This is something that is really going to allow us to be able to grow," said Dart Facilities Project Supervisor Jason Bristow.

The new corporate facility will be built right next door to the corporations garden, which highlights the principles the company is built on.

"It's sends a statement that Dart Container is making a huge investment in the area, we have been here for 50 years, we expect to continue growing and I think this says a lot for the state and a lot for this area," Alfonso said.

Allowing Dart to continue to make its mark across Michigan and the world.

There are still a few building permits that have to be approved, but Dart Corporation expects to break ground on the new facilities in the spring of 2013.
