Dart Plans to Bring New Jobs, Money to Mid-Michigan

Posted:

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are expected to pour into the Mason-area over the next couple of years. Dart container Corporation announced Wednesday it plans to expand and bring 325 new jobs to Mid-Michigan thanks in part to the approval of a $3 million state grant.

Since Dart bought the Chicago-area based Solo Cup company in May, more workers are needed to help with the expansion including the construction of a new corporate office building and warehouse facility. Out of the new 325 jobs expected to come to Mason, it's unclear how many of those employees will be transferred from the Red Solo Cup Company in Chicago.

The Mason Chamber of Commerce is already preparing relocation packets to welcome new employees to the small-town atmosphere.

"We certainly would like them to not only work in the Mason area, but we'd like them to live here as well," said Doug Klein, Executive Director.

Local Real Estate Broker Ken Johnson hopes that's the case too.

"We've got private residences, new houses being built. We've got condos, pretty much an across the board selection," said Johnson.

"Dart's been a phenomenal employer. They've been here half a century," said Doug Stites, CEO of Capital Area Michigan Works. "This is not going to happen overnight, but good news for the region."
