Inmate Caught After Two Hour Escape

An inmate at a mid-Michigan jail is back in custody after a two-hour escape.

Jackson County sheriff's deputies say Domonick Mata walked away from his work assignment at the Columbia Township Police Department after showing up at 9 a.m.

He was back in custody around 11:30 a.m.

Deputies say Mata, who is 20-years-old, was not a violent offender.

They were unsure as to why he took off - as Mata was scheduled to be released from jail on Christmas Eve.

They say that now he'll likely end up staying a little bit longer.
