Students Continue Tradition Of Rebuilding Homes For Hurricane Katrina Victims

OLIVET, Mich. (WLNS) – Sixteen students from Olivet College left Mid-Michigan Saturday morning to help rebuild homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina. This is the ninth time students from the college have gone on the trip.

The trip organizer, Rev. Michael Fales, says students will assist with construction work. However, he says there are bigger lessons he's like students to learn. "Part of the education is about the level of poverty there," says Fales. "We have poor people e everywhere, and we certainly have plenty of poor people in south/central Michigan, but the level of poverty in New Orleans is beyond that that many of our students have seen."

The students will retrn to Mid-Michigan next Saturday.
