Lynchburg, Va. (PRWEB) December 24, 2012

A hard fought fall season paid off for the Liberty University Division I women's hockey team as it earned the top spot in the American Collegiate Hockey Association rankings entering Christmas break. Liberty improved from its third place ranking in the ACHA's first poll of the season.

The Lady Flames (14-1-0) received six of 13 first place votes and ousted the University of Rhode Island (No. 3) for the top spot.

Liberty concluded 2012 play with a three game sweep of Colorado at home and on a six game win streak, outscoring opponents a whopping 26-4 in those victories.

The Lady Flames' lone loss of the season came at the hands of No. 2 Minnesota, kicking off a long four-game road trip to Madison, Wis., Nov. 16-20. Liberty bounced back from the 4-1 defeat the following night and beat the Golden Gophers 3-2.

On Jan. 11 the No. 1 ranked Lady Flames will continue their 2012-13 campaign in Oxford, Ohio when they take the ice at Miami University in the first of a two-game series. Puck drops at 9:20 p.m.
