Hoops Player To Leave MSU

Brandan Kearney is leaving the MSU basketball team.

The sophomore guard made the decision over the winter break and finalized his decision late Thursday night.

The 6-foot-5 Kearney played in 34 games for MSU last year, averaging almost 10 minutes a game. He also averaged 1.2 points and .8 rebounds.

Basketball coach Tom Izzo says Kearney told him he wanted to do more and felt he could do better somewhere else.

Izzo says he was shocked by the decision.

Kearney, who is from Detroit, was named to the 2011 Class A First-Team All-State honoree as selected by both the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News as a high school student.

Al Martin will have more on Kearney's decision tonight on 6 News at 6.
