Like a greater portion of the country, Mid-Michigan has seen an increase in flu cases this season, with at least three children's deaths.
Sparrow Hospital recently issued a notice urging those who have flu-like symptoms to visit their primary care physician or urgent care before coming to the emergency room.
The Center for Disease Control says if you're experiencing symptoms such as fever, chills, nausea or fatigue, rest at home and drink plenty of fluids.
Carol Dwyer, Sparrow Vice President of Nursing, said in a release, "Many of these Patients are choosing to come to the Emergency Department, but we recommend first visiting your primary physician or one of Sparrow's two urgent care locations in order to avoid longer wait times."
