Police have arrested a man after they say he took a flat screen television from Wal-Mart, then stole a taxi cab.
It happened in the early morning hours on Wednesday on Brown Street from West Michigan Avenue.
Jackson County Sheriff Steve Rand says officers tried to pull over the Colonial Cab with the 49-year-old Jackson man and television in the backseat, but the vehicle wouldn't stop. Allegedly, the suspect was threatening the driver if he stopped.
After several blocks, the cab stopped at West Avenue and the driver got out. That's when the suspect climbed over the seat and got into the driver's seat. After a short struggle with officers, the suspect then got away in the cab. He crashed into a road sign and curb on Morrell and Everhard and tried to flee on foot, but was taken into custody.
He's being held at the Jackson County Jail awaiting charges.
