Cadillac Announcement Makes Local GM Workers Beam With Pride

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – General Motors workers who make the Cadillac ATS at the Grand River plant in Lansing said on Monday they feel an overwhelming sense of pride after the vehicle was named the 2013 North American Car of the Year.

"I think this shows we've made a lot of progress from where we were three years ago," said Matthew Figurski of the Lansing Grand River plant.

Other workers say today's announcement gives them a renewed sense of hope after the financial troubles the company faced during the Great Recession. "In 2008 when General Motors went bankrupt, I actually got laid off, and I was out on the streets for a few months," says Mike Martin of the Lansing Grand River plant. "And now, seeing a whole revival gives me a whole new sense of security and pride knowing that what we're building in Lansing is helping propel the company to another level now."
