DETROIT (AP) - Michigan law enforcement's drunk driving crackdown over the New Year's holiday has resulted in more than 100 drunk driving arrests.
Michigan's Office of Highway Safety Planning announced Tuesday that between December 27 and January 1 more than 100 law enforcement agencies in 22 counties arrested 103 drunk drivers. Thirty of those drivers had a blood-alcohol level of .17 percent or higher and face harsher penalties under Michigan law.
OHSP Director Michael Prince said "Michigan law enforcement officers are experts at finding and arresting drunk drivers."
The Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center is reporting 12 traffic crash deaths over this year's holiday, half of which involved alcohol. That's a decrease from last year when 14 people were killed in traffic accidents, five of which involved alcohol.
