Gun Rights Rally Draws Hundreds To Capitol

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Hundreds of gun rights supporters gathered Saturday afternoon on the Capitol lawn to protest new gun laws.

The rally is one of dozens that took place at state Capitols across the country on Saturday as part of National Gun Appreciation Day. The group Guns Across America organized the rallies in response to the recent federal gun control movement.

Those at today's rally say people are responsible for killing, not guns, and that new laws won't stop criminals. "The people who go out and do these kinds of tragic events are definitely people that can't be stopped because of a gun law or anything like that," says Don Volaric, a gun rights supporter. "This is personal responsibility."

But there were some dissenters at the rally who say President Obama's executive orders on gun control are a good idea. "I'm an advocate for that Obama did- putting in place stricter limitations on magazine capacities," says Steven Negus. "I can't wrap my head around why anyone would need assault style rifles."
