LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Historical Museum is hosting a day of educational events this week to celebrate Michigan's 176th birthday and the bicentennial of the War of 1812.

Events during the museum's annual Statehood Day celebration on Saturday include the showing of a new documentary "Michigan at War: The Struggle for the Old Northwest, 1812-1815." The museum also will hold a discussion of Ralph Naveaux's book "Invaded on All Sides: The Story of Michigan's Greatest Battlefield."

On the museum's second floor, participants can listen to music from fiddle and banjo player Stew Lauterbach while learning how to make a quilt pattern.

The celebration runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The price for Statehood Day is included with museum admission.
