Snyder May Have to Play 'Let's Make A Deal' to Pass Road Package

Posted:

It's been one week since the governor unveiled his $1.5 billion revenue package to repair the road. Governor Snyder is not a game show host, but he may have to play a round or two of "Let's Make A Deal" with democrats to get his multi million dollar road package through the legislature.

The Senate minority leader says she is ready to make a deal and funding for education may be one of her demands. Senator Glen Anderson wants to restore the earned income tax credit for needy families and is blunt on the deal making.

(Reporter) You are not going to give him a yes vote on that without something in return. Anderson said, "Absolutely. We need to be involved in that process."

The governor is already talking about linking his road package to no fault car insurance reform. Detroit has the highest insurance rates in the state and if the governor can lower the cost on that, he might pick up some Detroit democratic votes in return for his road user fees.

"The cost savings are possible in terms of those reform. They could actually make up the bulk or more than enough to make up for the increase in user fees there might be," said Governor Snyder.

On the one hand, Lt. Governor Brian Calley is not fond of giving something to get something. But then he also concedes the two sides should look for common priorities.

Without enough gop votes to pass his road package, insiders believe the governor will have to brush up on his game show skills.
