Man Pleads to Striking Coach During Youth Game

Posted:

BRIGHTON, Mich. (AP) - A former youth football coach faces jail time for striking a fellow coach during a youth football game in Livingston County.

Jonathan Michael White pleaded guilty to assault and battery Thursday in Brighton District Court. The 36-year-old admitted he slapped another coach during an Oct. 16 scrimmage at the Bennett Park football field in Hamburg Township.

White is expected to receive five days in the county jail and be required to undergo anger management treatment. He's scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 19.

Police say White used vulgar language during the game and struck the other coach after each accused the other's team of dirty play.

White says the football league has suspended him for a year.

Defense attorney Darin Weinberg says his client has apologized to the children's parents.
