LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – As more than 80 Army soldiers with the 303rd Military Police Company were welcomed home by family and friends in Jackson Sunday afternoon, there was one soldier who was meeting a new family member for the very first time.
Chad DeRosia of Lansing was deployed in February of 2012 for two months of training in Fort Bliss, Texas before heading to Afghanistan for a 9-month tour of duty while his wife, Amy, was pregnant. "Originally when I left for deployment, they told me I'd be able to come home for the birth, so I was prepared to be able to come home and see it in person," says DeRosia. "So when that didn't happen, I was devastated."
But four months later, DeRosia was able to finally meet his daughter.
"I didn't think I was going to hold it together," he says. "I'll never forget this day the rest of my life."
