Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero to Give State of City Address

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero will deliver his State of the City speech Monday night, touching on both local and national issues.

One of the key topics expected is finding ways to cut down on gun violence. The mayor says in the aftermath of the Connecticut shooting and the few shootings in Lansing since the new year, the city needs to make sure guns don't end up in the hands of criminals. Part of that plan includes new gun safety laws and more thorough background checks.

The mayor also plans to address ways to balance the city's budget and how to brdige an estimated $9 million deficit this coming fiscal year.

The speech will begin at 7p.m. at the Board of Water and Light's Reo town plant.

6 News will have full wrap-up on the mayor's speech, both on air and online.
