Lack of 'Wintery Weather' Hurts Some Businesses

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Warming temperatures this week have many thinking back to last year's thaw and the impact that had on business that rely on bad weather.

"Last year was like the worst ive seen in 30 years," said David Hidy. "This season has been terrible and after last year I thought this year was going to be gang busters. And it's turned out to be actually worse than the last season."

2012's lack of winterery conditions took a 30 percent hit on his business. Even with time left in this oen, he's close to that number again.

"We have all these trucks ready, gassed up, license plates, maintenance and when they're sitting, it's costing me. When they're working, it takes quite a few plows and salting to even break even," Hidy adds.

Hidy says it's not just his paycheck that's on the line, but all of his employess, too. That's why he's hoping to see a turn around next month.

"It can nice one day and bad the next and of course, I count on the worst days," he says.
