Unusual Guest Jumps Through Family's Window

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - A Jackson man and his 94-year-old mother got quite the surprise Sunday night when a deer jumped through their window and into their home.

Wayne Standish compared the sound of the glass breaking to that of an explosion when the 4-foot deer burst through the glass windowpane and began running frantically through the house. Standish was eventually able to trap the deer inside the bathroom.

He says after about ten minutes, deputies from he sheriff's department arrived, when they devised a plan: open the 18 by 24 inch bathroom window, bang on the door and maybe she'll squeeze out.

"She put her head out several times and eventually, she gave it a Hail Mary and away she went," said Standish.

The deer likely cut herself on her way in, as a few drops of blood still remain on the windowsill. The deer also did some minor damage in the bathroom, including breaking the toilet lid.

All in all, he says because no one, including the deer, was hurt, they have one wild story to tell.

"My asthma flared up on me immediately. But my mom sat so stoically in the chair as if this is an everyday occurrence," said Standish.

"Who'd ever imagine a deer coming in your window," said Buelah Standish
