Medical Examiner Testifies Infant Died From Head Injuries

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - John Sanders, 37, appeared in district court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing in front of Judge Clarke.

Ingham County Medical Examiner Joyce DeJong testified and said the baby died after suffering multiple head injuries. She suffered bleeding of the brain, caused by blunt force trauma, and bleeding of the eyes.

Sanders is charged with open murder and first degree child abuse in connection with the death of his 3-month-old daughter, Ja'Nayjah Sanders. Ja'Nayjah died the night of January 4.

Neighbors of Sanders recently spoke out, saying they can't understand why such a tragedy would happen.

The hearing will continue Thursday.
