Snow Park Celebrates Cold Temps for Grand Opening

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - "We welcome the snow and the cold. When it drops to the right temperature, we're a go," says Hawk Island Park manager Brian Collins.

Collins might be one of the very few in mid-Michigan rooting for the snow, hoping for this kind of weather since last year.

"It's the official grand opening now that we knew the weather would be cooperative. Snow's perfect now. We want everybody to come out and see what we have going," said Colling.

Last year, Collins could only open the snow park for a few weeks because it simpy wasn't cold enough. He says the ideal temperature for making snow is in the mid-teens to 20 degrees. This year, conditions are perfect.

"Oh, this is great. It's the first park of its kind, probably in the nation," said Collins.

Collins says the country's only municipality snowpark is finally ready for it's grand opening Saturday. The park's already seen a steady increase in business this year.

"So far this season, we've seen about 3,000 visits," he says. "We're going to keep it going as long as we can, as temps stay the right way."

The grand opening is Saturday at 10a.m. and will stay open until 9p.m.
