Woman Discovers Basement on Fire

DELTA TWP, Mich. (WLNS) -- A local woman came home Saturday afternoon to find her house full of smoke and discovered her basement on fire.

She made the discovery just before 4:00 p.m. on the 1500 block of Marcy Avenue in Delta Township. That's near Mt. Hope and Snow Road.

Officials say there's extensive fire and smoke damage throughout the house, but aren't calling it a total loss.

No one was hurt or in the home when the flames the sparked.

Delta Fire Chief John Clark told 6 News when firefighters arrived on scene, "The house was closed up tight so actually a majority of the fire was out," he said. "We used very little fire to extinguish the fire. It pretty much snuffed itself out."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
