Members begin celebration of UNA-USA’s 70th Year Supporting a U.S. Engagement at the UN

NEW YORK (PRWEB) February 04, 2013

Nearly 600 United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) members and guests are attending UNA-USA Members’ Day at the UN today in New York City. Members' Day participants are UNA-USA members, community leaders, business executives, academics and students, as well as representatives from think tanks and like-minded organizations. Today’s conference represents the largest gathering of UN advocates in the U.S. on a single day, and marks the launch of UNA-USA’s 70th Anniversary celebration.

“This day is one of the most important for UNA-USA during the year, and a great way for the organization to kick-off its 70th year. Each year, UNA-USA members from across the country gather at the UN to hear from top voices on the most pressing issues, and network with like-minded individuals, and advance support for UN causes,” said UNA-USA Executive Director Patrick Madden.

The theme for this year’s Members’ Day is “The U.S. at the UN: Opportunities for Renewal.” Two keynote addresses will be given, one from UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, and the other from United Nations Foundation President & CEO Kathy Calvin. Participants will also hear from U.S. Youth Observer at the UN Brooke Loughrin, as well as panels on climate change, the global economy, education, and youth, and security issues.

The meeting is being held in conjunction with the UNA Southern New York Division and the 5th Annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference. More information on UNA-USA Members’ Day at the UN can be found at http://www.unausa.org/membersday. UNA-USA is a program of the UN Foundation, furthering its mission to connect people, ideas, and resources to help the UN solve global problems.
