NOVI, Mich. (WLNS) - The man police suspect is responsible for a series of highway shootings was back in court Monday, where a judge decided to seal the results of his competency exam.
The judge met with attorneys in chambers Monday and in court, ruled the exam would stay sealed until the trial is over. Both prosecutors and defense believe it could potentially impact the right of a fair trial.
It started when Raulie Casteel was in district court in Novi last week where he was found competent to stand trial after a court ordered exam. Just before the hearing ended, there was a debate on whether those results should be made public..
Casteel was ordered back to the state forensic center by doctors there for further evaluation and interviews to determine criminal responsibility.
Casteel has been charged with 60 counts in Oakland County for alleged shootings in the Wixom area. He also faces felony charges including terrorism from the attorney general's office.
He's due back in court March 1st for a preliminary exam on the charges in Oakland County.
