Lansing Buys-Back Dozens of Guns

The city of Lansing held a gun buy-back program Saturday, in an effort to reduce gun violence.

"Guns for Groceries" was held at Tabernacle of David Church from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.  Authorities say they collected a total of 122 firearms.  73 were handguns, 47 long guns, and 2 assault weapons.

People who turned in their weapons received a Meijer gift card ranging from $50 to $150 dollars.  The gift cards that were given out were bought with donations totaling $15,000.  Area hospitals donated $10,000 and the other $5,000 came from private individuals.

Organizers say they did not give out all of the gift cards today, and will use whatever is left for the next buy back.  It's still unclear when that will be.

It was the second gun buy-back for Lansing in over six months.
