Suspect Charged in Mid-Michigan Armed Robbery


MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say they've charged a suspect in one of a string of recent armed robberies in mid-Michigan.
Vincent M. Belmarez was arraigned Thursday in Mount Pleasant, and a judge ordered him jailed on a $950,000 bond. It isn't known if he has a lawyer, and authorities couldn't immediately give his age.
He's charged with robbing a Subway restaurant in Mount Pleasant, and police say it may be linked to several other stickups.
Public school officials in Mount Pleasant have tightened security following the robberies and police at Central Michigan University have issued warnings.
A cash-advance shop was robbed about Monday by a man who threatened an employee with a handgun. The Subway was robbed Sunday.
Other area businesses that have been robbed include a grocery store and another cash-advance outlet.
