The luxury cars driven by the stars are becoming more fuel-efficient, with the likes of Justin Bieber and George Clooney driving electric and hybrid models. Leading finance resource http://www.GoBankingRates.com investigates this trend towards fuel-efficient cars to find the top rides of choice for eco-conscious celebrities.

A recent trend in celebrity cars sees more and more stars driving fuel-efficient cars, reports premier personal finance site GoBankingRates.com. Today’s list of celebrities driving fuel-efficient cars includes Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, and even Prince Charles. But they aren’t trading fuel-efficiency for comfort; many of the models-of-choice are electric or hybrid luxury cars.

Some examples of this trend include George Clooney’s Tesla Roadster, valued at $109,000, and Justin Bieber’s chrome-plated Fisker Karma, valued at $102,000. Meanwhile, the average auto financing amount was just $26,673 according to a February 2013 release from the Federal Reserve, making these luxury cars nearly four times more costly than what the average American borrowed for a new car. But while these fuel-efficient cars may carry huge price tags, celebrities may be choosing them to be more eco-friendly and money-conscious.

“It’s a surprise to encounter a celebrity who is just as worried about saving money as having luxury, particularly when it comes to their cars,” says GoBankingRates expert contributor Stacey Bumpus. “But there are some who are marry luxury and function to drive fancy celebrity cars that are simultaneously cost efficient.”

GoBankingRates did find celebrity cars that were both cost- and fuel-efficient, such as Britney Spears’ recent choice of a $14,000 Mercedes-Benz Smart Car. Other affordable models favored by stars include the Chevy Volt and the Toyota Prius.
