TMSG: DeWitt Team Cheers for Victory

Posted:

DEWITT, Mich. (WLNS) - District champs, regional champs and on the verge of becoming state champs. There's plenty to cheer about on the DeWitt High School competitive cheer team these days. The program has literally flipped itself, becoming one of the best in the state after rebuilding for years.

"They spend more hours working than any other athelete. They put in their time," said Head Coach Candace Heskitt.

Time Heskitt knows all about as a panther cheer alum. She says the current squad sets an example for all high school athletes, both on the floor and in the community.

"With this team, it's all about life, not just here on the matt but afterwards, in school, in college when you become an adult yourself," she said.

A sign of maturity reflected on even her youngest cheerleaders.

"We're a big family. We bring it all together and it makes me feel even confident about myself. It's had an impact on me," said Kailin Greenhoe.

And on everyone who now sees right through the stereotype of cheerleading, thanks to these talented athletes and young women. Sometimes at the top of the pyramid, but always at the top of their game.

The Panther cheerleaders will compete in the state championship Saturday in Grand Rapids. 6 News wishes the girls all the best as they go for the title!
