Funeral Services for Boy Accidentally Shot Planned

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) - 3-year-old Michael Easter died Saturday evening when he accidentally fired a gun. His father, a Jackson County Sheriff's deputy Mark Easter, had just left for work.

First Lieutenant Mike Krumm with Michigan State Police confirmed that the gun used in the shooting was not Deputy Easter's service weapon. They are not releasing any other information at this time.

MSP added extra patrol cars in Jackson so the Sheriff's Department could send deputies who first responded to the scene home, some of whom knew Michael.

The Michigan State Police Office of Behavioral Science will be conducting a debriefing and grief counseling this week for first responders and any other deputies to help them work through this tragedy.

Michael's visitation will be held Tuesday from 3-5 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the Desnoyer Funeral Home in Jackson. Michael's funeral service will be held at the St. John Catholic the Evangelist Catholic Church on N. Francis Street on Wednesday at 11:00a.m.. MSP plans to add more patrol cars during the funeral.

According to the boy's obituary, he is remembered as a joy and a rambunctious, loving son.

He's survived by his mother Melissa, and two sisters, McKenna and Mollie.
