Mid-Michigan Man Dies After Falling Through Ice

CHEYBOYGAN, Mich. (WLNS) - An Eaton County man has died in a snowmobile accident in Northern Michigan.

Crews near Cheyboygan say James Larder II of Eaton Rapids apparently went through the ice on Mullett Lake overnight. A search of the area found the spot where it happened.

The dive team was able to recover his body using the hovercraft.

Sheriff Clarmont said Larder was an experienced snowmobiler who became disoriented.  "This is a tragic accident. It is sad when a sportsman loses his life while doing what he loves – enjoying the outdoors."

Larder reportedly had a seasonal home in that area.
