TSA to Allow Small Knives On Aircrafts

Posted:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Starting April 25, the TSA will allow passengers to carry on small knives. It's all in an effort to streamline its security approach with International Aviation Standards and focus on finding higher-threat items.

The blades must be less than 2.36 inches long and half an inch wide. All other knives will continue to be banned.

"We don't think it's a major change to airport security," said Bob Selig, executive director at the Capital Region International Airport. "I'm confident that TSA in relaxing that one rule is not doing anything that would jeopardize the safety of the traveling public."

But not everyone is happy about the security change. The union that represents nearly 90,000 flight attendants blasted the TSA decision on their website, saying "it'll endanger the lives of all flight attendants and passengers."

Many passengers also are uncomfortable with the idea. On our 6 This Morning poll, around 75 percent of viewers said they did not agree with the plan.

The changes will also include novelty-sized bats, ski poles, hockey sticks and golf clubs.
