82 pounds lighter and counting, SoCal wife and mom Marlem Jalomo is more active than ever

LOS ANGELES, March 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- "I was in constant pain," admits Marlem Jalomo. Before receiving gastric sleeve surgery at the offices of noted bariatric surgeon Dr. Michael Feiz, the then seriously obese 30-something wife and mother was plagued by arthritis in her coccyx and she was seriously worried that knee surgery could be in her future. Her doctor insisted that Zumba dance classes and her other favorite work-outs were out of the question; only elliptical machines and swimming were allowed. Unable to work out as much as or as vigorously as she would have liked, Ms. Jalomo was making little headway against her weight problem and, at 5' 3.5" and 232 pounds, her frustration was mounting. "I tell my friends now I was reaching a point of no return." Doing some research, the Temecula resident decided to take advantage of the lap band insurance would help pay for.

That was, however, before she set foot inside the offices of Dr. Feiz and Associates. She was immediately delighted with the doctor's knowledge and how helpful his staffers were. "I felt welcomed," she said. She was also impressed with how much interest the renowned surgeon took in her particular case. He argued that a sleeve gastrectomy would be a better choice than a lap band, as it was highly effective while also being less invasive than other common bariatric procedures.

Once it was time for the operation, Ms. Jalomo was reassured by how helpful Dr. Feiz was when it came to dealing with her family, helping to calm her worried mother and husband as well as her own concerns. Of course, it's the post-surgical results of her sleeve operation that have most delighted her.

After losing 40 pounds, she suddenly noticed that almost all of her pain had gone away, but that was not the first of her dramatic results. Immediately after the surgery, her snoring had stopped; Dr. Feiz had also fixed a hiatal hernia in Ms. Jalomo's esophagus. "[Stopping the snoring] helped my relationship with my husband very much. When the woman snores louder than the man, it's a problem," she says laughing.

Now a full 82 pounds lighter and looking fabulous showing off her new look on Facebook, Ms. Jalomo gets to enjoy her favorite workouts and keeps busy volunteering at her 9 year-old daughter's school and in her support of her 16 year-old son's baseball team. She isn't done yet and is determined to reach 130, more than 100 pounds lighter than before her first visit to Dr. Feiz. She lauds the help she has had from Dr. Feiz's office as she reaches her goal from staffers Lupe and Larry. "I see Larry a lot. Very informative. If I have any questions, he can tell me what I'm doing wrong," she says with a laugh. Clearly, though, she's not doing very much wrong. "I can do what I want now," Ms. Jalomo says.
