Woman Jumps From Window Of Burning Home

Posted: Updated:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - A family of seven is safe after the Lansing Fire Department put out a fire at the Brookshire Townhomes Apartment on Hunters Ridge Drive on the south side of Lansing.

It happened around 4:30a.m. at a two story apartment building near Waverly Road. Officials say the fire broke out on the first floor and had taken over to the second by the time they arrived on scene.

A 34-year-old woman was at one point trapped in the second story and had to jump from a window. She suffered a fractured heel and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The fire has been ruled as accidental. Officials believe it started as a grease fire. It took around an hour for crews to put out the flames.

There is water and smoke damage to the apartment as well as the apartment connected to it, as it is a duplex.

The Red Cross has stepped in to help. You can call 517-484-7461 to make donations.
