WASHINGTON, March 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- At its 24^th Annual Gala, the Washington Automotive Press Association (WAPA) awarded Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America, with the Golden Gear Award for his company's efforts in expanding diesel technology in the United States.

"Even several years after the debut of clean diesel, consumers at large are still in the dark about the technology and its benefits," says Jessica Anderson, WAPA president. "As automakers strive to meet advanced fuel economy standards, Audi is proving that there's more than one way to be green with the introduction of a whole lineup of diesel options."

Audi of America announced the arrival of four new TDI clean diesel models at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show - the Audi A8, A7, A6 and Q5. These vehicles are set to go on sale later this year. The addition of these four models marks the first time Audi will feature a full lineup of TDI clean diesel vehicles in the U.S. as they join the updated Q7 model. Each TDI vehicle delivers up to 30 percent better fuel economy and 30 percent lower carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines, resulting in longer range and fewer trips to the fuel pump.

The WAPA Annual Gala, held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. brings together auto journalists, company and industry group representatives together from all over the country. This is the 26^th year WAPA has awarded the Golden Gear Award to honor a person or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the automotive industry. John Lynker, the founding member of WAPA for whom the award is named, was a legendary automotive journalist at Washington's WTOP radio station, as well as a newspaper columnist and magazine contributor.
