Featuring a cast of more than 20 marionettes, spring production will run March 27 - June 2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Simpich Showcase Marionette Theatre in Old Colorado City will present its original adaptation of The Pilgrim's Progress for the 2013 spring season. Based directly on John Bunyan's classic 1678 Christian allegory, this solo theatre presentation features puppeteer David Simpich in the role of Bunyan himself.  Utilizing a cast of over twenty marionette actors, the author recounts his fantastic dream in which Christian, an every-man character, journeys from the City of Destruction to the Celestial Gate. The play highlights the classic Bunyan "visions" of the Slough of Despond, Vanity Fair, the River of Death, imprisonment by Giant Despair, battles with demons and dragons and colorful discourse with an array of wise men and fools.

The string puppet production, written and designed by Simpich in 1998, was initially presented in Colorado Springs and toured extensively throughout the United States until 2006. It is now presented every two to three years in the Simpich family's permanent performance facility as part of the theatre's repertoire of sixteen original plays. This year's performance theme is "A Tapestry of Stories," and the theatre is highlighting productions in the Old World traditions of Europe. After England's The Pilgrim's Progress, France's Beauty and the Beast, Germany's Hansel and Gretel and a Bavarian interpretation of Christ's Nativity are scheduled to round out the year.
