Eaton Rapids Police Chief Puts in Resignation Notice

EATON RAPIDS, Mich. (WLNS) - Eaton Rapids Police Chief Paul Malewski put in notice for resignation on Monday night. Malewski said he will work through April 15, when he will then retire.

His attorney for the city of Eaton Rapids, Philip Erickson, didn't say why he was stepping down.

His retirement comes at a time where the department is under a lot of scrutiny. There was a federal law suit re-filed this year for alleged excessive police force, and a sergeant in the department is charged with domestic violence in connection with an July 2012 incident involving his then wife.

The Eaton Rapids website says Malewski has worked for law enforcement in Eaton Rapids for 20-plus years.
