Some 150 employees at a downtown Lansing office will soon have a longer commute.
That's after the Lake Trust Credit Union announced plans to move them from corporate offices there to a new $30 million dollar building near Brighton.
The 100,000 square foot building should open by 2015.
The company says part of the reason for the move is because of the merger between NuUnion Credit Union and Detroit Edison Credit Union back in 2010. Some of the corporate offices were in Lansing, and others were in Plymouth. Brighton is about halfway between the two. The company says keeping the two separate sites would have cost the company and extra $7 million.
The company says it will continue to invest in both Lansing and Plymouth.
"We're really excited to make this announcement about our new headquarters and future investments in Michigan," said Lake Trust president and CEO David Snodgrass in a press release.
According to its website, the credit union, has assets of $1.5 billion - making it the fourth largest credit union in Michigan in terms of asset size.
