DETROIT (AP) - State police say two hit-and-run crashes left a woman dead and shut down a stretch of Detroit freeway for several hours.
The fatal crash happened about 2:20 a.m. Thursday on westbound Interstate 94.
Police say 22-year-old Carlita Charmaine Young of Detroit stopped a car along the freeway, partially blocking the right lane, and got out. Police say she was hit by another vehicle and that driver, believed to be a 60-year-old man, fled the scene on foot.
Police say Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shortly afterward, a car rear-ended another car that had slowed because of the first accident. Police say the driver of the car that was hit fled on foot.
The freeway closure lasted for more than four hours backed up traffic for the morning commute.
