TMSG: Hitting A High Note At The Library

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - One local library has hit a good note when it comes to connecting kids with creativity and culture.

Barbara Bailey Hutchison knows the secret for keeping kids curious and captivated. "Kids, they remember music. If you're trying to teach them any subject, try putting that to music and see how fast they will learn it and remember it."

The MSU graduate and Grammy winner for Best Recording of Children's Music is headlining a series of special guests and featured artists all performing at the East Lansing Public Library this year.

"It shows what you can do. We're all members of a big community and you're little piece counts and will help make that big masterpiece," she said.

Library Director Kristin Shelley said bringing home local celebrities like Hutchison is a great way for the library to connect with local families and kids. But it's the lesson learned through her music that really energizes everyone involved.

Barbara also spent the week teaching the kids how to paint, as she's an artist as well.
