Snyder Approves Money for New Veterans Agency

Posted:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Governor Rick Snyder signed a bill Wednesday that will give $3 million into Michigan's brand new Veterans Affairs agency to link veterans to benefits they've earned. Those benefits will include everything from health care to jobs.

There are more than 680,000 veterans living in Michigan. They served our country, now Governor Snyder says it's time the state serves them--better.

Right now, Michigan ranks at the bottom when it comes to federal money spent per person on VA services.

Governor Snyder appointed an army veteran to lead the agency and says it's time for the state to step it up.

The agency was created in January by the governor's executive order. One of it's first projects is to develop a computer portal where veterans can input their information to make it easier to figure out what benefits they qualify for and how to collect.
