Talks Underway to Revamp NIOWAVE Building

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Talks are underway to revamp the look of a pole barn that riled a Lansing neighborhood months ago. More meetings are still needed to find and finalize a fix.

Niowave's chief financial officer confirmed negotiations are ongoing and hopefully a solution should be on it's way.

"I think it's apparent something is needed because we're in a residential neighborhood, not an industrial park," said Gerald Carme, a neighbor to the area.

The make-over could include brick, fake windows, landscaping and a parking lot. Although nothing is finalized yet, neighbors have high hopes.

"I'm optimistic that we're headed in the right direction. There's still some information that we don't have yet so that we're not in a position to take it back to the entire neighborhood and say ok, vote it up or down," said Mary Elaine Kiener, who lives just two houses away from the steps of the pole barn. "There's a lot of elements that would help this building blend more into the neighborhood environment."

The Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) worked with a local architectural firm to come up with the design.

Niowave's chief financial officer Mark Sinila said the company has been wanting a solution for months, that the sooner all parties come to an agreement, the better, and that this whole saga has been a distraction for business.

As for the timeline of how soon things could be finalized, neighbors hope by the end of next week. However Lansing city councilwoman Carol Wood says the city hasn't received an update from LEAP since the end of February.
