Local Woman Plans to Peddle to Texas for Non-Profit

Posted:

DEWITT, Mich. (WLNS) - A local woman is planning a trip to Texas to raise money for a non-profit in Jackson. But she's not planning to fly or drive there, Janna Rowan is going to cycle 1,200 miles.

"My first ride was eight miles and I have never looked back," said Rowan. Now, she's planning her trip "from here in DeWitt, Michigan to Fort Worth, Texas."

She plans to roll out September 1, but this isn't a typical adventure. She's got a long way to go on and off the road.

"My goal is $10,000, but an even bigger goal is raising awareness, telling people there's deaf-blind people out there with needs, they have resources that they don't have access too," said Rowan.

So far, she's raised $120. An interpreter herself, Rowan knows first hand the struggles deaf-blind people face and she hopes more people will saddle-up and donate through her website. The money will help pay for things like "support service providers," who help deaf-blind folks with day-to-day tasks many take for granted.

"When they're in the grocery store, what different name brands of food they have, who's in the store? What's the weather like?

"I'm already thinking about how awesome it's going to be to hit that Texas line and to know what I'm doing is making a difference for somebody who can't do it for themselves."
