Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero In Line For A $5,000 Raise

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero could see more than a $5,000 increase in his salary next year if the Lansing City Council members approves the raise after their meeting Monday.

Lansing's elected Officers Compensation Commission has recommended raising Bernero's salary to the position's base pay from 2002 to 2007. The mayor took a salary cut in 2011, which was the last time the position's pay was reduced.

The raise would come just weeks after a number of new yearly fees for Lansing residents were announced in Bernero's budget plan for next year, asking residents to pay more for the operation of things like streetlights and fire hydrants.

It would take effect on July 1 unless the council overrides the reccomendation.
