Steelhead Fish Are Added To Red Cedar River

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The state of Michigan is planning to stock a river on Michigan State University's campus with 3,000 steelhead fish.

The release of fish Monday morning comes after the school's board of trustees changed an ordinance to permit hook-and-line fishing on campus. Fishing will be allowed in a section of the north bank of the Red Cedar River for the first time since the 1960s.

A state Department of Natural Resources truck is expected to release 6- to 8-inch steelhead into the river for their voyage to Lake Michigan. The Sparty mascot and state and university officials will also be on hand.
