Child Abuse Prevention

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Child abuse prevention advocates will rally on the steps of the state Capitol this week to raise awareness and promote the need for services.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The Michigan Children's Trust Fund is expected to hold a Prevention Awareness Day rally 11 a.m. Tuesday. The group says the event will highlight the problem of child maltreatment and advocate for prevention programs.

The theme for the event is "The Power of One." The group says "the power of one person, one community, one dollar and one action" can impact child abuse prevention.

Participants will also plant a "pinwheel garden." The pinwheel is the national symbol for child abuse prevention.

The rally will be held in the Capitol rotunda in the event of inclement weather.
