Report: Pure Michigan Campaign Big Hit in 2012

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A consultant's report says the Pure Michigan tourism promotion campaign had its most successful year in 2012, attracting 3.8 million visitors from other states whose spending topped $1 billion.

The report is being released Monday at a conference in Detroit. It says the campaign generated 580,000 more trips to Michigan last year than in 2011.

The report also says spending by visitors from other states generated $79.1 million in state tax revenues, or $5.76 for every dollar spent on out-of-state Pure Michigan advertisements.

The report was produced by Longwoods International, a tourism research firm.

Governor Rick Snyder says data show the campaign is succeeding and has potential to draw tourists from other countries as well.

This year's Pure Michigan ads are appearing on more than 25 cable channels.
