Lansing Police Department Gets New Interim Chief

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero has named Captain Mike Yankowski as interim police chief for the Lansing Police Department in wake of the current chief's retirement.

The announcement was made Monday morning at Sexton High School.

Yankowski, 40, has worked 18 years for LPD.  He will assume his position as interim chief on Saturday, after Chief Teresa Szymanski officially retires.

Mayor Bernero says there is no set timeline for naming a permanent chief, but says Yankowski is a top candidate for the position.
