Friedland Industries Holds Annual "Document Destruction Day"

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Today marks the first Saturday following tax day, so Friedland Industries held its fifth annual "Document Destruction Day."

From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the company shredded nearly 20,000 pounds of paper for free, kicking off "Shed it and Shred it" week, an event the company is using to celebrate Earth Day.

"[People] get to also understand when they come in that this is also for paper recycling, so I think that that connection is not always made," said Friedland Industries Manager Michael Bass. "When people think of shredding they think, well where does that paper go? You know, does it just get thrown away after that? Well no, it doesn't, everything here is reprocessed for repulp recycling."

If you missed today's event, but want documents shredded, Friedland Industries will be holding "Shred Fest" Thurday from noon to 6 p.m.
