Floodwaters That Hit Homes Recede in Ionia County

Posted:

IONIA, Mich. (AP) - Floodwaters are receding in Ionia County, which saw days of high water along the rain-swollen Grand River that affected more than 100 homes.

The National Weather Service says the Grand River at Ionia crested on Saturday and is expected to fall below flood stage on Tuesday. The Grand River is expected to remain above flood stage longer in some other parts of the state, including the Grand Rapids area.

Doug Devries, coordinator of the Ionia County emergency management office, tells the Sentinel-Standard of Ionia that officials in the county are "entering the recovery phase." He inspected flood-damaged sites Monday, and said at least 118 homes were affected.

Devries says he expects the number of affected homes to rise as officials collect damage reports from around the county.
